To celebrate this late winter Sabbat, I drew the Cailleach. The Cailleach is a divine hag goddess who rules over winter. She’s worshipped by the Celts as the sacred Earth Mother in her bare winter form. She gathers her firewood on Imbolc. If she wishes to make the winter longer, she'll make sure the weather on Imbolc is bright and sunny so she can gather plenty of firewod. But, if it's a day of foul weather on Imbolc, it means the Cailleach is alseep, will soon run out of firewood, and therefore winter is almost over. It’s believed that her legend is the origin of Groundhog Day. I think the old Celt version is so much more beautiful than the one of ol' Punxsutawney, don’t you?
